So since starting university I have joined a group called Caledonian Women. Now I know the word feminist freaks a lot of people out, but the work this group do is fantastic! They are raising awareness throughout our university about issues such as drinks being spikes in night, creating a gender and sexuality safe space And recently campaigning against the 5% tax on sanitary products (in the UK not entirely sure if the USA have the same problem). Tampons and other items are classed as a luxury products but men's razors and exotic meats aren't? There is a huge pation going on in the UK to change this (

I'm quite proud to be apart of this group, I all women are feminist wither they would like to admit it for not, that bad name it has now days isn't what it's about! It's about women being equal. That means being allowed to walk down streets at night alone not in fear, being paid the same about as our male colleagues and not being told we are up set becaus it's 'our time of the month'!
This post is quite different from my normal but I felt like sharing this with you guys :)
p.s, the subject of consent makes people feel akward, so I like wearing my badge because the awkwardness proves that there is still a major issue!
what a great group to be apart of. I definitely believe in equality through gender and ability :) it's ridiculous that things still happen that divide us. I didn't even know there was a tax on products like tampons... EH?! the government is so ridiculous x
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy! A girl in the group pointed out to me that homeless women aren't able to get tampons, I've never though of it from that point before and its so shocking! they should be available in clinic's everywhere the same way condoms are! So glad to hear of other equality supports but! one day we will be equal and have free tampons :D! xxxx
